East Asia Minerals Confirms Four Kilometre Copper-Zinc Anomaly at Khok Adar

VANCOUVER, B.C. -- August 17, 2006--East Asia Minerals Corporation (TSXV-EAS) has received the final results from its aircore drilling program that defines a four kilometre long copper-zinc anomalous zone within a larger altered structural corridor at its Khok Adar project in Mongolia.

A total of 578 short aircore drill holes were completed within a six kilometre east-southeast trending structural corridor. Anomalous zinc forms a halo around 8 zones of +0.1% copper mineralisation, which is consistent with metal zoning interpreted from drill assays at the EC1 deposit. The 8 zones include the EC1 deposit, the EC2 and East Zone 1 prospects, the recently identified Baruun Bayan anomaly and 4 newly identified anomalies. Highlights of the reported assays are detailed below. Metal zonation, drill hole and target locations can be found at www.EastAsiaMinerals.com.

At the Baruun Bayan prospect located 600 metres northwest of EC1, 100 x 100 metre spaced infill aircore drill holes have confirmed a 200 x 500 metre coherent zone of copper oxide mineralization. Highlights include holes KAAC015 (2.0m of 0.58% Cu and 4g/t Ag), KAAC477 (4m of 1.39% Cu and 10.5g/t Ag) and KAAC486 (10m of 0.72% Cu and 3.2g/t Ag). This near surface anomaly is approximately twice the area of the anomalous footprint over the EC1 deposit. RC/diamond drilling is planned following completion of ongoing drilling at the East Zone 1 prospect.

Aircore results, including 18.0 metres of 0.76% Cu and 5.3g/t Ag in KAAC158 have extended the EC2 copper mineralized zone to over 500 metres in length. Eleven new RC/diamond holes have been drilled into EC2 (assays pending).

Aircore drilling also defined a 200 x 200 metre zone of copper oxide mineralization at the East Zone 1 prospect, located 3 kilometres southeast of EC1. Significant assays include 20.0 metres of 0.84% Cu and 2.9g/t Ag in hole KAAC266. Follow-up RC/diamond drill hole Z1ERC-006D intersected 74.0 metres (60 metre true width) of banded massive sulphide, including sphalerite, galena, tetrahedrite and chalcopyrite. This hole, located east of the copper anomaly and at the margin of an extensive IP chargeability anomaly was targeted to test beneath hole KA05-20 (13.0 metres of 0.94% Cu and 6.92g/t Ag). Another East Zone 1 hole, Z1ERC-001D, reported July 17, 2006 also intersected similar sulphidic banded rock and contained 18.0 metres of 3.54% zinc. Additional drilling is in progress to further test the large potential in this prospect.

East Asia Minerals also reports assay results from the EC1-33 to 36 diamond drill core tails at EC1. These are summarized below and confirm the existence of narrowing zones of copper oxide mineralization at depth beneath EC1.
