East Asia Minerals Appoints Edward C. Rochette as Director

VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Thursday, May 6, 2010 -- East Asia Minerals Corporation (TSXV-EAS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Edward C. Rochette to the Company's Board of Directors. Mr. Rochette is a lawyer, and an internationally known negotiator and transaction specialist with 30 years of experience in the acquisition of mining rights, international business, land management and natural resource transactions.

The Board of Directors and Management Team welcome Mr. Rochette to the Board of East Asia Minerals as it moves into its next stage of growth. Mr. Rochette's extensive and expert background further adds to the depth of the Board and in particular adds important strength to the international and law component of the Board.

Mr. Rochette's primary experience involves setting up initial corporate and legal structures for new ventures, assisting in the preparation for taking companies public on international stock exchanges, negotiating joint venture agreements, negotiating the acquisition of property rights, obtaining operating licenses, setting up the corporate structure to manage licenses, leases and joint venture agreements, and legal due diligence. He has concluded mining transactions involving gold and other precious metals, uranium, iron ore, nickel, coal and oil & gas in Asia, Central Asia, Africa, North America and a number of countries in South America, as well as the Balkan and Scandinavian regions in Europe.

Currently Mr. Rochette is working as a Partner with IBDA, a premier consulting firm in China conducting business in Beijing and other areas of the world, where his responsibilities include being the transaction specialist in the international mining sector. Previously he was Senior Vice President of Ivanhoe Mines Ltd., a publicly traded copper and gold mining company with its head office in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, on an international posting from 1991 into 2006 as the "gluemeister" reporting directly to Robert Friedland for 16 years. This responsibility included the negotiation to acquire the world class Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold project, and thereafter living in Mongolia from 2001 to 2005. Currently Mr. Rochette splits his time living in Beijing, China and Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia.
